Small Business Networking

Branding

June 1, 2023

Networking is essential for the growth and expansion of small businesses. It can take place in-person or online (I mean this is the digital age after all!). However I LOVE in-person networking – it provides the opportunity to build deeper connections with potential customers and like-minded businesses.

Putting a face to the name behind a brand is a powerful way to build a relationship with potential clients, and networking events provide an excellent opportunity to do this. Small business owners can build a sense of community, create friendships, and establish referrals and business deals! Yes, all of that can happen at one small event! Crazy, but incredible right?! It also provides an opportunity for fellow business owners to learn from and share ideas with other professionals in their industry, which can help lead to partnerships and collaborations!

Building relationships is critical in business, and networking events provide a platform for us to do it with ease. It takes a lot to meet people in public setting (Am I right?!), but being able to go to one place where everyone is there for the same purpose is incredible beneficial for everyone!

Trust me, I get it. Networking can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are some tips to help you make the most out of your networking experiences:

  • Bring plenty of business cards, but don’t just hand them out and walk away. Instead, take the time to strike up a conversation with someone and exchange cards.
  • Take notes on the people you meet and follow-up with them. A quick email or DM can go a long way in establishing a relationship and keeping the conversation going.
  • Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with a stranger. To get started, use the simple rule of commenting on something you like about them, such as their outfit or the event itself.
  • Be authentic and have fun engaging in conversations. People are more likely to remember someone who is genuine and easy to talk to.
  • Practice your elevator pitch. Be prepared to give a brief and compelling overview of yourself and your business.
  • Be kind, thoughtful, engaging, and real. People want to do business with someone they like and trust, so don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through.

You’ve got this! If you want to chat more about upcoming networking events and one that I will soon be spearheading (hint-hint), send me a message and let’s chat!
