Posing with Your Hands

Branding

May 30, 2023

For our final week of National Photography Month, we’re tackling the ever-fearful question of what to do with your hands during a photoshoot. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with some tips and tricks that will help you feel confident and natural in front of the camera.

Experiment with different hand positions and see what feels most comfortable and natural for you. Don’t be afraid to try something new and unique!

  1. Use your hands to create movement: Try running your hands through your hair, playing with a piece of clothing, or reaching out to touch a nearby object. This can create a sense of motion and energy in your photos.
  2. Use props: Holding a prop such as your phone, book or a coffee mug can give you something to do with your hands while also adding visual interest to the photo.
  3. Cross your arms: This can create a sense of confidence and strength in your photos. You can cross your arms over your chest, or place your hands on your hips for a more relaxed yet assertive pose.
  4. Put your hands in your pockets: This is a classic pose that can add a sense of ease and nonchalance to your photos.
  5. Hold one hand up to your face and lightly touch your chin or cheek for a thoughtful and reflective pose.
  6. Place your hands behind your head or neck for a laid-back and carefree pose.
  7. Rest your hands on a nearby surface, such as a table or a wall, for a casual yet refined pose.

Thank you for following along with our National Photography Month posing series!

I hope these tips have helped you feel more confident and comfortable in front of the camera. If you’re ready to put these tips into action and capture some beautiful photos, book a session with me today. I can’t wait to see what we can create together!
