Spiced Hibiscus Cocktail

  • 1.5 ounces hibiscus simple syrup (see recipe below)
  • 2 ounces tequila
  • 1 ounce orange liqueur
  • 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
  1. Fill a shaker with ice.
  2. Add 1.5 ounces of hibiscus simple syrup, 2 ounces of tequila, 1 ounce of orange liqueur, and 1 ounce of fresh lemon juice to the shaker.
  3. Shake well until the mixture is nicely chilled.
  4. Strain the cocktail into a glass filled with ice.
  5. Garnish with a twist of orange peel or a slice of lemon.

Spiced Hibiscus Syrup

  • 1/2 cup dried hibiscus petals
  • 1 cups water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon whole allspice berries
  • 2 cardamom pods, lightly crushed- optional
  1. In a saucepan, combine dried hibiscus petals, water, granulated sugar, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, sliced fresh ginger, whole allspice berries, and crushed cardamom pods.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the syrup to thicken slightly.
  3. Remove from heat and let it cool. Once cooled, strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a bottle for storage. It can be refrigerated for up to two weeks.

Make it a Mocktail!

  • 1.5 ounces hibiscus simple syrup
  • 1 orange peel or 1oz orange juice
  • 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • Top with club soda or tonic water

We hope this sets the tone to an invigorating year ahead – full of spice and wonder!
