Happy First Day of Summer!

Summer is here, and I know you are out enjoying the summer time fun! The sun is shining, the weather is warm, and the possibilities for fun are endless. As a photographer who loves creating and capturing memories, I am always on the lookout for summer-themed activities that families can enjoy together.

Here in Los Angeles, there are so many things to do during the summer that it can be overwhelming to decide what to choose. That’s why I have put together a list of some of my favorite summer-themed items and activities that you can enjoy with your family:

Holi Powder and Smoke Bombs Family Feud

Colorful Bold and Playful is the name of the game here. With some Holi powder and smoke bombs you can turn a family session into a fun family feud color explosion! The kids LOVE this one – oh and so do the adults! One of my favorite sessions to date with Aldo and I!

If you’re not into the mess, try some fun outdoor games! Whether it’s frisbee, cornhole, or volleyball, outdoor games are a great way to spend time with your family and stay active.

Movie Nights

Set up a projector in your backyard, make some popcorn, and enjoy a movie under the stars.

Abstract Paint War

Throw some paint and create a masterful abstract art piece to add to the memory! Kids love to make a mess and this is just another way to let them be them and capture those precious smiles a la natural!

A Swim at the Beach

Beach Day with the babies is the best day! And the older kids love it too! Los Angeles has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Spend a day playing in the sand, swimming in the ocean, and soaking up the sun.

Farmers Market

Visit one of the many farmers markets in Los Angeles to pick up fresh produce, artisanal cheeses, and other delicious treats.

Let’s Make a Splash

Summer is all about cooling off and having fun in the water. Whether you prefer water parks, pool time, water balloon fights, kayaking, paddleboarding, or simply splashing around in the waves or a local creek, it’s a sure way to cool off and enjoy family.

Not super into hiking or water with the little ones? Visit one of the many botanical gardens in Los Angeles and enjoy a peaceful stroll through beautiful gardens and landscapes.

Local Summer Events

There are so many local summer events that may be the perfect fit for you and your family. Whether that’s an outdoor concert, museum, or even a carnival!

For the concerts, pack a picnic and enjoy some live music with your family. Carnivals are perfect for everyone in the family, packed with games, rides, and carnival food. There’s truly something to appeal to each person in your family and would make the cutest pictures and memories. If your family loves the more educational route, we can pick one of the many museums located in LA for a fun day out, and typically they are filled with photographic locations inside and out.

Family Hike

Explore nature with a local hike. Yeah you won’t be in yoga pants and sneakers, but it still can be fun! I hiked Arthur’s Seat in a skirt for our Scotland portraits and it was totally worth it!

Los Angeles is surrounded by beautiful mountains and hiking trails. Take a hike and enjoy the stunning views of the city. You could even pack a basket full of delicious snacks and drinks, and head to your favorite park for a fun picnic. Don’t forget the blanket!

Ice Cream Social

Nothing says summer like ice cream! Let’s have some fun with some ice cream cones from your local shop or set-up an ice cream social station in your backyard and have fun making it together and of course enjoying it.

A Dip In the Pool

Pool time shenanigans are fun for all. Don’t be shy, your kids don’t care what you look like in a swimsuit. They care that you were playing and splashing along with them creating awesome memories!

S’mores Campfire

My favorite reason for camping…S’mores!! This was a childhood favorite and such a fun activity (and reward) for the kids after. These can be taken at a local picnic area, hiking area or even your own backyard.

Fire up the grill and invite some friends over for a BBQ. It’s the perfect way to spend a summer evening.
