I have created a little series with our porch sessions to bring to light what our community is experiencing, feeling and doing during the COVID-19 quarantine and Safer At Home mandates.
Each of the families that participated in our porch sessions answered a series of questions and we asked them to be as open and vulnerable as they’d like. We are all feeling so many emotions, ups and downs, happiness, sad, discouraged, fears, and hopefulness that I wanted to make sure this time wasn’t forgotten.
A true statement that we are all in this together – and everything we are feeling is ok, accepted and we aren’t alone.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST GRATEFUL FOR DURING THESE TIMES?
The permission to slow down, to focus on creating meaningful daily routines, and the time with my family.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST FEARFUL OF OR CONCERNED ABOUT DURING THIS TIME?
I don’t have a lot of fear right now, but I feel so deeply for everyone who has lost their income, their loved ones, or are living in a constant state of anxiety because of our circumstances.
WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE YOU (AND YOUR FAMILY) DOING TO PASS THE TIME?
Swimming, taking our dog on long scavenger hunt walks (the kids make a list of crazy things for us to find, and then take take pictures of the found items); board games; game nights on zoom with friends and family; watching all the classic family movies of the 80s and 90s with our boys – we just watched The Great Outdoors – it’s so fun to see how much they enjoy these films that were a huge part of our own childhoods.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO BRING JOY TO YOUR DAY?
Meditating, gardening, reading outside in the sunshine, and long put-off projects around the house.
WHAT DO THESE PICTURES MEAN TO YOU?
No matter what is happening around us, we will always be a family, and we always have fun when we’re together. It brings me so much peace to know that our kids are resilient and still able to experience joy even in uncertain times.
WHAT IS IT LIKE TO HAVE THESE PICTURES DURING THIS MOMENT IN TIME?
I think it’s incredible to have this moment documented. Looking at the photos for the first time, I loved seeing how free and casual we all are. There was no matching outfits or arguing or forcing the kids into staged poses and hating the whole process. We just had fun with no expectations and the photos ended up being a perfect representation of how we normally are when we’re together.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ACTIVITY TO PASS TIME DURING THIS QUARANTINE?
Going to bed at 9pm. Haha.
YOUR MOST FRUSTRATING MOMENT AS OF YET DURING THIS QUARANTINE?
Cancelling all my clients. We are always so excited to be able to transform people’s homes and help them create a calm, soothing space. I just wish we would have been able to create those gorgeous spaces BEFORE everyone got stuck at home for so long!
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO POST-SAFER AT HOME?
Seeing of our clients, visiting my parents, and travel.
