I have created a little series with our porch sessions to bring to light what our community is experiencing, feeling and doing during the COVID-19 quarantine and Safer At Home mandates.
Each of the families that participated in our porch sessions answered a series of questions and we asked them to be as open and vulnerable as they’d like. We are all feeling so many emotions, ups and downs, happiness, sad, discouraged, fears, and hopefulness that I wanted to make sure this time wasn’t forgotten.
A true statement that we are all in this together – and everything we are feeling is ok, accepted and we aren’t alone.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST GRATEFUL FOR DURING THESE TIMES?
So much family time, knowing we are all safe in one place.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST FEARFUL OF CONCERNED ABOUT DURING THIS TIME?
Family that is living alone, concerned with my kids keeping up academically, trying to balance my teaching job with supporting my own children.
WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE YOU (AND YOUR FAMILY) DOING TO PASS THE TIME?
Walks, family game/movie nights, puzzles, kids have online karate lessons daily, Zoom calls with friends twice a wee.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO BRING JOY TO YOUR DAY?
Trying to find time to read by myself, Zoom calls weekly with friends.
WHAT DO THESE PICTURES MEAN TO YOU?
Trying to see this situation in a fun yet memorable way (and have all of us smiling and looking in the same direction).
WHAT IS IT LIKE TO HAVE THESE PICTURES DURING THIS MOMENT IN TIME?
It is certainly something we will never forget experiencing.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ACTIVITY TO PASS TIME DURING THIS QUARANTINE?
Any time we are doing something fun: movies, games, puzzles, or when I can be alone for five minutes!!
YOUR MOST FRUSTRATING MOMENT AS OF YET DURING THIS QUARANTINE?
That it’s togetherness ALL THE TIME!!, trying to keep our kids on track academically when I know that it is an impossible task, and knowing my 5th and 8th grader will not have their promotions from school or the pleasure of experiencing any of the fun events that wrap up their years and that makes me so very sad (I know it is for the best safety wise but it is still hard as a parent to know)
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO POST-SAFER AT HOME?
Going to the places we would normally go as a family: zoo, Wild Animal Park, movies with friends, restaurants.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO ADD OR EXPRESS?
This is a crazy time that our children will talk about with their own children some day and it will seem like such an unbelievable thing
