Spring is the perfect season for capturing fresh, vibrant photos, and what you wear can make all the difference in how your images turn out. As nature begins to bloom with pastels, lush greenery, and golden sunlight, your outfit should complement the beauty around you, not compete with it. Here are 6 tips on what to wear for your spring photo session, whether you’re planning a solo shoot, a family session, or a romantic couples’ portrait. We’ve got you covered so you can look and feel your best in every frame.

Most important… be you! We know that you want the best portraits possible and you have seen the most adorable session and want to copy it. That’s great! But use it as inspiration and don’t wear something that you will be uncomfortable and self-conscious in. It will show. Our collaborative goal is to show the most authentic you, not just from the inside but from what you are wearing. You are perfect the way you are and we want to showcase you! Wear what makes you feel the best, the most comfortable, and the most like yourself.
One of the biggest questions I get: What should we wear? Here are my top tips:
- 🌿 Soft pastels, whites, and neutrals – perfect for spring tones
- 👗 Flowy dresses & light fabrics – movement looks gorgeous in photos
- 🎨 Coordinate, don’t match – think complementary colors, not uniforms
- 🚫 Avoid loud prints & logos – let the setting and your smiles shine! but a little spring floral print never hurt!

Step It Up
Wear what you would normally wear, but step it up a notch—especially for a spring photoshoot! What does this mean? If you normally wear jeans and a t-shirt, go for it! Wear it for your session. But add a little more flair to it with a light spring scarf, pastel accessories, or some adorable shoes to add some character so that you shine through. Think about soft florals, light layers, and breezy fabrics that reflect the fresh, vibrant feel of spring. These touches will help make everything feel polished and cohesive for your spring setting. Accessories are also a great way to help you interact naturally during your photos—whether it’s playing with a hat, adjusting a jacket, or holding a fresh flower.
Hair & Makeup
This is a huge plus, and for a spring session, going with a professional is the way to go. Don’t try a brand-new style just for your shoot, spring is all about feeling fresh and natural, not overly done. While we do recommend a good cut and color prior to your session, your haircut, color, or perm should be at least 7 days old to settle in and photograph best. We’re also happy to include our add-on professional hair and makeup stylist to help you achieve a soft, glowy spring look. And don’t forget your nails – light, fresh colors or clean, natural nails are perfect for spring. A fresh pedi and manicure elevate the look, but if polish is chipped, it’s best to go without – it doesn’t photograph cute!
Layers and Textures
Jackets and shirts with light cardigans underneath, or a breezy jacket over a spring dress, can bring such beautiful dimension to your spring photoshoot. Layers not only add texture but also allow for movement and variety in your photos. Think denim jackets, flowy dusters, or even a soft knit—pieces that feel light and seasonally appropriate. Be sure to bring a few options like these to your session so we can try them out and see what works best with the spring setting and lighting.
Patterns – We love a little pattern!
Feel free to use patterns! They can add such a fun, fresh touch to a spring photoshoot! Just be sure the pattern isn’t overwhelming or distracting. For example, a floral or gingham patterns are perfect for spring, but keep the rest of your outfit in simpler, solid colors to balance things out. In group photos, it’s usually best if only one person wears a pattern while the others stick to more neutral, complementary tones. This helps keep the overall look cohesive and allows the spring setting to shine through without competing with bold prints.

Keep It Simple and Classic
You don’t want to look back at your spring photos in a couple of years and wonder what the heck you were wearing, so it’s best to keep things simple and timeless. Spring is the perfect season for light, classic pieces that feel fresh but not too trendy. You can absolutely stay current! We love a good seasonal touch, but try not to go overboard. Stick with clean lines, soft colors, and classic shapes that photograph beautifully in natural spring light. Let Audrey Hepburn be your fashion guide – elegant, effortless, and never out of style.
