Ten years ago, I had the honor of photographing Natalie and Robert for their engagement shoot. Little did I know that our journey together was just beginning – and I’d get the honor of taking their family photo sessions too!

When we shot their engagement photo session, it was one of my very first (actually I think my very first) holiday mini session. 2 kids (girls) and a few years later, they contacted me for a family portrait and we have been photographing them ever since! I have watched them go from engaged to having 2 daughters, then expand their family with 2 more boys!

As a photographer, my ultimate goal is to create treasured memories for families. I love seeing their photos proudly displayed on their wall, a testament to the happiness and significance these moments hold in their lives.

Activities for Family Photo Sessions

To get the little ones relaxed and smiling naturally during your family photo session, we recommend you to bring items from their favorite activities and I bring out some tricks too. From goofy faces to fun poses with props, we create an atmosphere where they can let loose and be themselves. Who wants to stand there smiling a fake smile for 30-45 mins, not us adults – much less the little ones. I’ll admit it, sometimes I join in on the silliness too! Trust me, it works like a charm, and we end up with the most precious shots that reflect their true personalities. I can’t stress enough how essential it is to incorporate the things kids love into our sessions. After all, who wants stiff, fake smiles when we can capture genuine joy and authenticity?

San Juan Capistrano Mission

Now, let me take you to one of my favorite locations, San Juan Capistrano Mission. The stunning scenery, beautiful buildings, and lush grounds offer the perfect backdrop for family sessions. Yes, there’s a photo permit fee, but let me tell you, it’s worth every penny when you see the breathtaking shots we capture there.
