Quarantine IRL – Real Talk IX

Portrait

May 11, 2020

I have created a little series with our porch sessions to bring to light what our community is experiencing, feeling and doing during the COVID-19 quarantine and Safer At Home mandates.

Each of the families that participated in our porch sessions answered a series of questions and we asked them to be as open and vulnerable as they’d like. We are all feeling so many emotions, ups and downs, happiness, sad, discouraged, fears, and hopefulness that I wanted to make sure this time wasn’t forgotten.

A true statement that we are all in this together – and everything we are feeling is ok, accepted and we aren’t alone.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST GRATEFUL FOR DURING THESE TIMES?

I am most grateful for my family and the ability to spend so much time together. It’s definitely an unexpected blessing in this challenging time. My kids have each other, so they have been kind of forced to learn how to get along if they want a buddy to hang our with.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST FEARFUL OF OR CONCERNED ABOUT DURING THIS TIME?

I’m trying to give it to God each day because ultimately He is in control. Obviously I am being safe, but I know I don’t have to live in fear. I am very concerned about the economic downfall and loss of jobs, as well as the mental health of our children. This is hard on everyone. Also concerned about the health of everyone, but again I can pray and do my part.

WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE YOU (AND YOUR FAMILY) DOING TO PASS THE TIME?

We are watching movies, playing outside, taking walks, playing games, cooking and enjoying the ability to laugh and really get to know each other even more. With the busy schedule of life, it can hard to make those moments a priority. I am cherishing them now

WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO BRING JOY TO YOUR DAY?

I am trying to find moments to be grateful for all the blessings I do have in my life. I don’t dwell on all the things I am missing, although it’s hard, but I try to find the silver lining each day. Gratitude keeps me grounded.

WHAT DO THESE PICTURES MEAN TO YOU?

These pictures mean to world to me! You were able to show the connectedness that has been such an unexpected blessing and truly an answer to prayer for our family. No matter what comes our way, we know we always have each other.

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO HAVE THESE PICTURES DURING THIS MOMENT IN TIME?

Priceless!! They turned out so beautifully and I am so grateful. I know we will always look at these pictures and remember the good that came of this challenging time.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ACTIVITY TO PASS TIME DURING THIS QUARANTINE?

Watching movies, going on walks and laughing with our girls.

YOUR MOST FRUSTRATING MOMENT AS OF YET DURING THIS QUARANTINE?

Trying to motivate my kids to stay on task with school and not being able to take the kids anywhere to play, let go and have fun. The lack of a social outlet is so hard for kids to understand. It’s hard for us too!

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO POST-SAFER AT HOME?

Appreciating the time I get to spend in person with family and friends. Reconnecting and catching up in person is definitely a priority!

ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO ADD OR EXPRESS?

I’m so grateful for my neighbors and the amazing group of women and mom friends on my block that make this quarantine as fun as it possibly can be! (Socially distanced of course!) Dance parties in our front yards are the highlight for sure! Lifetime memories… that’s for sure!
